June is recognized as Men’s Health Month, with Men’s Health Week taking place June 15–21.
While conversations around men’s health often focus on fitness, strength, or physical performance, it’s equally important to talk about mental health, body image, nutrition, and eating disorder recovery.
Eating disorders are often misunderstood as something that only affects women, but men of all ages can struggle with disordered eating, body dissatisfaction, compulsive exercise, and unhealthy relationships with food. Unfortunately, stigma and stereotypes can make it harder for men to seek help or even recognize that support is needed.

Men’s Health Month offers an opportunity to broaden the conversation around wellness and encourage a more compassionate, realistic view of health. True health is not defined by appearance, muscle size, or rigid eating habits. It includes emotional well-being, balanced nourishment, rest, flexibility, and supportive relationships.
Registered dietitians who specialize in eating disorders and nutrition counseling play an important role in helping individuals rebuild trust with food and their bodies. For many men, nutrition counseling can provide a safe, judgment-free space to explore food rules, exercise pressure, or body image concerns that may have gone unspoken for years.
Body image struggles in men can sometimes center around achieving a certain physique, appearing lean or muscular, or feeling pressure from social media and cultural expectations. These challenges can quietly impact confidence, mental health, relationships, and overall quality of life. Recovery work helps shift the focus away from appearance and toward sustainable self-care and well-being.
Men’s Health Week can also serve as a reminder that asking for support is not weakness—it is an important part of caring for yourself. Whether someone is navigating eating disorder recovery, working on improving their relationship with food, or simply trying to create healthier habits without extremes, support from qualified professionals can make a meaningful difference.
This June, Men’s Health Month is a chance to redefine wellness in a more inclusive and compassionate way. Health is not about perfection. It’s about finding balance, building trust with your body, and creating space for both physical and emotional healing.
