Each year on June 2, communities, organizations, healthcare professionals, advocates, and individuals around the world come together for World Eating Disorders Action Day.
The purpose of this global initiative is to increase awareness, share evidence-based information, reduce stigma, and improve access to support and treatment for those affected by eating disorders.

One of the most important messages of World Eating Disorders Action Day is that eating disorders can affect anyone. They do not discriminate based on age, gender, race, body size, culture, or background. Yet many misconceptions still exist, creating barriers that can prevent people from seeking help or being recognized when they are struggling.
For individuals in recovery, this day is about more than awareness—it is about hope. Recovery is possible, and support is available. Whether someone is navigating anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, ARFID, or another eating disorder, healing often involves a team approach that includes therapists, physicians, loved ones, and registered dietitians.
Registered dietitians who specialize in eating disorders play a critical role in recovery. Nutrition counseling helps individuals rebuild trust with food, challenge harmful food rules, restore nutritional balance, and reconnect with their body’s needs. Recovery is not simply about eating differently—it is about creating a healthier relationship with food, movement, body image, and self-worth.
World Eating Disorders Action Day also encourages communities to move beyond awareness and take action. That may mean sharing accurate information, supporting a loved one, advocating for improved access to care, or helping reduce the stigma that often surrounds mental health and eating disorders. The global movement was created to unite individuals, families, professionals, and organizations in advancing education, advocacy, and meaningful change.
Body image struggles often thrive in silence. Open conversations can help challenge harmful stereotypes and remind people that they are not alone. Every person deserves compassionate, evidence-based care and the opportunity to pursue recovery without shame.
This World Eating Disorders Action Day, consider taking one small action—whether it’s learning more, sharing resources, supporting someone in need, or extending compassion to yourself. Awareness matters, but action creates change. Together, we can help build a world where eating disorders are understood, support is accessible, and recovery is possible for everyone.
